Well, it would be the season t'were it actually warm outside...
I received an email from Brooklyn Based (the best all-Brooklyn, all-awesome email list of all time) this morning that touts the new bar Franklin Park in Crown Heights. BB says "Its terrific 1300-square-foot front patio is billed as a beer garden, with 12 American craft brews and imports on tap, but there’s a full, subway-tiled bar inside, too." Sounds like - if I can drag my sad buttocks away from the grill - I will be hittin' that later this month!
I thought I would take a moment to share with you a few other wonders of outdoor chugging. Sorry Manhattan, you have yet to impress me with your patio to price ratio.
The Gran'ddaddy of them all, Bohemian Hall and Beer Garden in Astoria
29-19 24th Ave, Astoria, Queens (718) 274-4925
If you've ever tried to come have a relaxed pilsener on a weekend, you know you are in for trouble. See, the Ironic Mullets have taken over this place in force, y'all. IF on the other hand, a mid-week warm evening intoxicates you with the need for bubbles, it's poifect! The trees are looming and shady, the barmaids are suitably foreign, the yard spacious, the tables woody, and now they have their menu printed on paper! A couple of years ago, all they had were a couple of folding tables - laden with meat product - in the back. Catch it on the right evening, and you can watch incomprehensible contests in some Slavic language I don't understand. It opens for the season this weekend! May 1st! Yay!

LIC Bar
45-58 Vernon Blvd, Long Island City, Queens, (718) 786-5400
LIC Bar's back patio is draped with the tendrils of a large a willow tree - it seems to stay, "Linger over your $5 draft Hoegaarden a while, won't you? Spaten-on-draft misses you. Don't leave without Spaten! What about Leffe? Even though she's in a bottle doesn't mean she's not happy to see you?!?!" Soakage available in the form of yummy toasted sandwiches. Thursday night is Trivia night. Irish accents prevail. p>
